ARTIST BIO

Artana welcomes the return of contemporary Realist painter Dina Brodsky in a captivating solo show that gives form to human sentiments by reexamining the beauty of the commonplace. Brodsky, formerly a resident of Brookline, MA is now a high-profile emerging artist in New York City. Brodsky's "curio cabinet of life" oil paintings reveal a philosophical, youthful mind at work while paying tribute to 17th Century Dutch Master painting techniques. In fact, Brodsky's stellar abilities procured her a position as a demonstration painter of museum master works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Brodsky's originals are also highlighted this month in two cutting-edge art magazines, artscope and Direct Art.

Brodsky holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the New York Academy of Art (2006). Artana hosted Brodsky’s first private gallery exhibition in 2004 and is delighted to present her fourth annual show to our following this February. Recent private collectors who own Brodsky paintings include HRH Prince of Wales, Kip Forbes, and Eileen Guggenheim and Russell Wilkinson.

Dina's Studio ARTIST STATEMENT

My goal is to combine traditional painting techniques with contemporary, personal subject matter. I want the viewer to see the importance of a small slice of life, to make each painting, no matter how small, transcend its size and subject and tap into the greater dialogue of painting, both contemporary and historical.

Art is only one of many interests. My work is often inspired by ideas from literature, cinema, philosophy and the natural sciences. I believe realist painting has the ability to capture a lot more of the world than its appearance. I use traditional painting methods because I feel like they allow me the most freedom for self-expression.
