Artist's Statement
Art and self expression in various forms has been a way of life for me. Whether painting or designing a piece of jewelry or holloware, most of my work has simply been an outward expression of my inward emotional response to nature and my surroundings. I see God's fingerprints all around
me and I hope that my work in some small way will cause the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty in what He has created.
Dunnigan began to develop her artistic talent at an early age, eventually earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art
in 1978. Having majored in silversmithing and jewelry design, she worked for many years as a designer craftsman, maintaining a retail studio in Hopkinton, MA. About 20 years ago she has turned her talents toward pastel painting. ARTANA noticed her chalk-ladened, painterly pastels created in the American Expressionist style and became a representative in 2004. Over the past two decades she has exhibited her work nationally and has won numerous awards. To her credit her excellence as a pastelist earned her the prestigious stature as a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA). Always involved and interested in the betterment of her community, it is not surprising that Dunnigan is also a charter member of the Pastel Society of Southwest Florida. Dunnigan presently teaches ongoing classes in pastel painting at the Art League of Bonita Springs in Bonita Springs, FL and at the Naples Art Association's Von Liebig Art Center in Naples, FL, and enjoys being an honorary juror for several regional art fairs.
