ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nan Hass Feldman's colorful, witty, and whimsical oil paintings of interiors and vibrant, lush landscapes, are shown by the likes of the Danforth Museum of Art, DeCordova Museum, and the Worcester Art Museum. This April, Artana warmly welcomes Nan to the gallery as we present "Encore IV!", her fourth solo showing of 40 incredible, recent works.
The year 2007 is a high point in this artist's career.
Artana's current show is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Nan Hass Feldman: Interiors at the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, MA. Museum Director, Katherine French, who was recently honored by the NE chapter of the International Association of Art Critics for curatorial excellence, has curated a painting show featuring 27 of Feldman's domestic interiors. A catalog of work in the exhibition, with an essay by Ms. French, is available at the Danforth Museum of Art and Artana. A selection of paintings at the Museum are available for purchase as well; please contact Artana for specifics. We encourage everyone to see Feldman's work at the Danforth Museum of Art, only a 30 minute drive West of Boston. Other exceptional artists currently on view at the Museum are George Nick and Joseph Solmon. Feldman's show runs through May 6th.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Blessed by a love of life, an optimistic outlook, a very high energy level, a passion for painting, and a drive to put and keep my creative life in the forefront—I believe all this has gone into my thirty-five year career as an artist.
Since early childhood, I have had a love for strong color and design, regardless of whatever medium I used, be it drawing, collage, mixed-media, oils, acrylics, oilsticks, or encaustics. Regardless of my love for different mediums, my work is image-based and revolves around the house (both interiors and exteriors) and landscapes as subjects. These subjects are the armature on which I can apply my subjective responses to place and time, engaging emotions, fantasy, and fiction. I love to capture my real environments or those of friends, and places I've been to, through my screen of selective seeing, playful detail, heightened color, and bits of fantasy.
Having grown up in art museums in New York City and having taught in three art museums in Massachusetts for the past thirty-three years, I make art as a way of paying homage to those artists who have touched my life since early childhood. These influences (Matisse, Dubuffet, Derain, Vlaminck, Dufy, Chagall, Vuillard, De Saint Phalle, and Hockney to name a few) continually help me to evolve within my own subject matter, mediums, and concerns. Making art marks each day with importance.
