Lorraine Fields Bowden has hit her stride as an oil painter after a decade of rigorous studies. Prior to her move to the United States, Fields Bowden attended the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. In the States she decided to pursue fine arts and enrolled in courses at the New Jersey Art Association. Her most recent development has been during intense private studies under painter Thomas Deininger. In most recent years Fields Bowden's paintings have been juried into shows hosted by noted regional art organizations, such as the Newport Art Museum. The artists most current achievement is her new ranking as an Exhibiting Member of the prestigious Providence Art Club. Artana is pleased to present Fields Bowden's debut in Massachusetts this month.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Immersed in the creative power of art, I apply paint to canvas and watch it move, blend and fall as it will.

In this series of paintings, I am drawn to the stillness and beauty of the woodlands, and the unfathomable process of change in growth and life within. As I paint, I create small abstractions when viewed up close, but which translate into representational images, as one steps back from the canvas. Because of this, I prefer to work in a large format. My desire is to convey the pleasure of the process and to create interest in the paint and its many and varied applications. My desire is also to convey to the viewer just how beautiful, and at the same time, how abstract our world is.
